The Indian Army is introducing an important change in the Agniveer selection process for 2025. From now on, candidates will not only be judged on physical fitness, like running and push-ups, but also on their mental strength. A mandatory mental fitness test will be included to ensure both the body and mind are strong. Starting August 2025, this test will be conducted at Agniveer rallies in Gwalior, Chambal, and Bundelkhand. Every candidate must pass this test, highlighting the Army’s focus on recruiting soldiers who are fit physically and mentally.
🧠 What’s New in the Selection Process?
After you finish your 1600-meter race (run), you’ll get a link on your mobile phone. This link will open a 15-minute online test designed to check your mental strength.
This test is now compulsory. If you don’t clear the psychological test, you won’t be allowed to move forward to the next stages of recruitment, such as the medical examination or the written test.
The test is prepared by a top institute called Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR), which works under the Ministry of Defence.
🔍 Why Is This Change Happening?
Earlier, only officer-level exams like NDA, CDS, and other Entries had mental fitness tests. Now, even Agniveer GD (General Duty) candidates will face this test. Why? Because the Army has realized that today’s soldiers need to be mentally strong, not just physically fit.
Col Pankaj Kumar, the officer in charge of the Gwalior Army Recruitment Office, explained it well:
“Physical fitness alone is not enough. A soldier must also be mentally strong to serve in tough situations.”
In real life, soldiers face stress, danger, and emotional pressure. Those who are mentally strong can handle these situations better. That’s why the Army wants to check a candidate’s mental readiness right at the start.
⚙️ How Will the Psychological Test Work?
After your run, you’ll get a link on your phone.
You must take the 15-minute online test immediately.
It will ask you questions that check how you think, react to pressure, and handle stress.
If you don’t pass, you’ll be disqualified from further rounds.
This test is not too difficult, but it’s smart enough to show if someone is mentally fit for Army life.
🧪 How Is It Different from Officer-Level Tests?
Officer-level exams like the SSB (Services Selection Board) have very detailed and long psychological tests. The Agniveer version is shorter and simpler, but still good enough to find out if a candidate has any mental issues or problems handling stress.
This test will help the Army avoid recruiting people who might struggle later due to mental pressure or emotional breakdowns.

🎯 What This Means for Candidates
This change is a big step forward. The Indian Army is becoming more modern and careful in how it selects soldiers. In the coming years, this test will probably become a standard part of Agniveer recruitment across India.
So if you’re preparing for Agniveer Bharti 2025 or beyond, don’t just work on running and strength. Also focus on your mental well-being.
